Adventure activities in Goa, and how I'd book them safely
Kayaks on the Chapora, a first surf lesson on the north coast, a dive around Grande Island and white water on the Mhadei in the rain, with the rules I'd never skip.

In short
- Sea sports run October to May, from 8 AM to sunset, only with operators registered with Goa Tourism, and always with a life jacket.
- Paragliding is suspended. Goa halted it in January 2025 after a fatal crash at Keri, and the Goa Aero Sports Rules of October 2025 make every operator register and insure each pilot and passenger for at least Rs 15 lakh.
- For scuba, go to a dive centre at Bogmalo or Baga for a try-dive or a PADI course around Grande Island. December to February is best.
- White-water rafting runs only in the monsoon, mid-June to mid-September, on the Mhadei near Valpoi: about three hours over 10 km, for ages 12 and up.
- Book through LetsGoa, the booking site I trust, and at a beach kiosk agree the price and the minutes before you pay.
Adventure activities in Goa follow the weather. The sea is open for sports from October to May, the rivers are at their best on calm dry-season mornings and the Mhadei runs white only in the monsoon. Between them there's something for most of the year, from a first surf lesson to a 55 m bungee jump over a lake.
I host guests in Siolim, and the guide I give them has a chapter on adventure that ends with a few rules for staying safe. Here are its 12 activities, with where and when to do each and how I'd book them. Then a plain answer on paragliding, which is suspended.
The rules I'd keep to the letter
Goa's rules for adventure are short, and I'd follow every one of them, because currents can be strong on calm-looking days. They also tell you who to book: an operator registered with Goa Tourism, who carries photo ID.
On the sea: jet skis, scuba and dolphins
Calangute and Candolim are the busy end of the coast, with kiosks on the sand selling parasailing, jet skis and banana rides, often as a combo. For anything under the water, I'd skip the combos and go to a proper dive centre.
Sinquerim, below Fort Aguada, is where the boats leave for the dolphins and for Grande Island. The island trip is a sociable day on the water from October to May, with a dolphin stop, snorkelling and lunch. Check what's included before you pay.

Parasailing and jet skis
Parasailing, jet skis and banana rides from the beach kiosks, often sold together.
Agree the price and the minutes before you pay, and check the operator is registered.

Try-dives and PADI courses around Grande Island, with long-running centres such as Goa Diving and Barracuda Diving.
Book the dive centre itself, not a beach combo.
Dolphin spotting
An hour by boat in the sea season, looking for Indian Ocean humpback dolphins off the Aguada headland.
Choose a boat that keeps its distance from them.
Kayaks, paddleboards and surf in the north
The quieter north is where I'd learn. Kayaks go out on the Chapora from Chopdem, just across the river from Siolim. Paddleboards launch at Mandrem and Ashwem, and the surf and kite schools work the beaches between Arambol and Morjim.

River kayaking
Guided paddles from Chopdem, across the river from Siolim, or through the Nerul mangroves near Candolim. Inland, Mayem Lake now has kayaking too.
Book ahead: trips usually need a group of four or more.

Stand-up paddleboarding
Sunrise lessons on calm mornings at sea, or gentler trips on the Tiracol river.
Book a day ahead.

Kitesurfing
Learn with a certified school on Morjim beach. Beginners need about three days.
Keep a few days free, because you're waiting on the wind.

Surf lessons
Beginner lessons of 90 minutes on the quieter northern beaches, usually in the morning.
Learn with a school.

Inland: white water, jeeps and a bungee
Inland, the adventures change with the rain. The Mhadei runs white only in the monsoon, Dudhsagar's jeeps start in late October and the bungee at Mayem takes a break in July and August. The waterfalls, temples and forest roads around them are in my piece on Dudhsagar and Goa's waterfalls.
White-water rafting
About three hours and 10 km on Grade II to III rapids through the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary, suited to beginners. Goa Tourism runs it with Southern River Adventures.
Ages 12 and up. Trips leave at 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM from The Cashew House in Nagargaon.
Book at goarafting.com
Dudhsagar by jeep
Forest tracks through the Bhagwan Mahavir Sanctuary to the foot of Dudhsagar, at 310 m Goa's tallest waterfall. It's a full day from the north.
Jeeps are capped daily, so start early.

The forest corporation's own jeep safari, then a forest walk to a waterfall, for about Rs 570 a person.
It runs from 7 AM to 4:30 PM.
Book on LetsGoaBungee jump
A 55 m jump over the lake with Jumpin Heights, run to New Zealand standards since 2019.
Ages 12 to 45. Closed 1 July to 31 August. Book online.
Jumpin HeightsIs paragliding allowed in Goa?
No, not for now. Goa suspended paragliding across the state in January 2025, after a tandem flight crashed soon after take-off from the plateau at Keri, in the far north, killing a tourist from Pune and her instructor. The company that flew them was operating without proper authorisation.
On 30 October 2025 the state notified the Goa Aero Sports Rules. Every paragliding, paramotoring, hot-air balloon and drone operator must now register with the Department of Tourism and hold a registration certificate before flying, use trained and licensed tandem pilots and carry personal accident insurance of at least Rs 15 lakh for every pilot and passenger. Breaking the rules can bring fines of up to Rs 2 lakh and blacklisting.
When to go, and how I'd book
Match the adventure to the month. The dry season suits the sea and the north's rivers, and the monsoon belongs to white water and to waterfalls seen from the bank.
The year runs like this. October opens the sea season: kayaks on the Chapora, surf lessons, boats to Grande Island. December to February is best for diving, and February to May for kitesurfing at Morjim. When the sea sports stop for the monsoon, the Mhadei takes over, with rafting from mid-June to mid-September. Dudhsagar's jeeps wait for late October.
I've laid out the whole year in the best time to visit Goa, and the rains in things to do in Goa in the monsoon.
For slower days, with walks, cooking and spice farms, see my list of unique things to do in Goa.
If you're new to all of this, start on the river: a guided paddle on the Chapora from Chopdem on a calm morning, life jacket on. The sea will still be there in the afternoon.
Questions people ask
No, not for now. Goa suspended paragliding statewide after a fatal accident at Keri in January 2025, and the Goa Aero Sports Rules of October 2025 require every operator to register with the Department of Tourism and insure every pilot and passenger. If anyone offers you a flight, ask for the registration certificate, and don't fly without it.
October to May, from 8 AM to sunset, with operators registered with Goa Tourism. Sea sports stop for the monsoon, from about June to September, and river kayaking and paddleboarding pause then too.
I'd go to a dive centre at Bogmalo or Baga for a try-dive or a PADI course around Grande Island. December to February is the best time. Book the centre directly rather than a beach combo.

Yes, at Mayem Lake with Jumpin Heights: a 55 m jump over the water, run to New Zealand standards since 2019. It's for ages 12 to 45, and it's closed on Tuesdays and from 1 July to 31 August. Book online.
