In short
- Sea sports in Goa run October to May, from 8 AM to sunset, only with operators registered with Goa Tourism, and always with a life jacket.
- Paragliding is suspended. Goa halted it in January 2025 after a fatal accident at Keri, and the Goa Aero Sports Rules of October 2025 require every operator to register and to insure each pilot and passenger for at least Rs 15 lakh.
- For scuba, book a dive centre at Bogmalo or Baga for try-dives and PADI courses around Grande Island. December to February is best.
- White-water rafting runs only in the monsoon, mid-June to mid-September, on the Mhadei river near Valpoi: about three hours over 10 km, for ages 12 and up.
- Book activities on LetsGoa, and at beach kiosks agree the price and the minutes before you pay.
Goa's adventures follow the weather: the sea from October to May, the rivers on calm dry-season mornings, and white water only in the monsoon. Between them there is something for most of the year, from a first surf lesson to a 55 m bungee jump over a lake.
Below are twelve, with where and when to do each, and then the question of paragliding, which is suspended. Book through LetsGoa, the booking site we trust, a day or two ahead in season.
Before you book: the safety rules
Goa's rules for adventure are short, and worth following to the letter: currents can be strong on calm-looking days.
- Sea sports run from 8 AM to sunset, October to May, and only with operators registered with Goa Tourism, who carry photo ID.
- Always wear a life jacket on the water, whatever the activity.
- River kayaking and paddleboarding pause in the monsoon, and swimming at waterfalls, rivers and lakes is banned for about 60 days from late June.
- Paragliding is suspended. The full answer is below.
- Walking the railway line to Dudhsagar is banned. Go by jeep.

Jumpin HeightsIs paragliding allowed in Goa?
No, not for now. Goa suspended paragliding across the state in January 2025, after a tandem flight crashed soon after take-off from the plateau at Keri, in the far north, killing a tourist from Pune and her instructor. The company that flew them was operating without proper authorisation.
On 30 October 2025 the state notified the Goa Aero Sports Rules. Every paragliding, paramotoring, hot-air balloon and drone operator must now register with the Department of Tourism and hold a registration certificate before flying, use trained and licensed tandem pilots, and carry personal accident insurance of at least Rs 15 lakh for every pilot and passenger. Breaking the rules can bring fines of up to Rs 2 lakh and blacklisting.
Adventure by season
Match the trip to the month. The dry season suits the sea and the north's rivers; the monsoon belongs to white water, and to waterfalls seen from the bank. The whole year is laid out in the best time to visit Goa, and the rains in Goa in the monsoon.
